One-on-One Support Services
By joining the Life After Impact program, you will have access to one-on-one support from a social worker, occupational therapist, and vocational rehabilitation specialist.
What does a social worker do?
Social workers play a vital role in promoting healing, stability, and empowerment. Social workers provide trauma-informed care that addresses both the psychological and emotional consequences of these experiences, while helping survivors navigate complex systems and rebuild their lives with dignity.
- Provide trauma-informed care and emotional support, walking alongside survivors throughout their healing journey with empathy, consistency, and care.
- Coordinate access to essential services and advocate for survivor’s rights within legal, healthcare, and social support systems.
- Educate survivors on the impacts of trauma and concussion to support informed decision-making and self-awareness.
- Develop individualized safety plans that prioritize survivor’s ongoing protection and emotional well-being.
- Refer survivors to specialized services, including occupational therapy (OT) and vocational rehabilitation.
- Support recovery planning by helping survivors set meaningful goals, build resilience, and regain independence.
What does an occupational therapist do?
Occupational therapists can help you:
- Identify what tasks are challenging and why
- Explore strategies to manage symptoms like fatigue, memory, or sensory sensitivity
- Recommend workplace accommodations as needed
- Support communication with employers (if desired) to help create a more supportive and accessible work environment
The goal is to support people in living as independently, safely, and meaningfully as possible—at home, at work, and in the community.
What does a vocational rehabilitation specialist do?
Vocational Rehabilitation Specialists help survivors find and maintain meaningful work that fits their goals, abilities, and circumstances, especially when trauma or life challenges have impacted their career path.
- Assess skills, interests, and career goals
- Explore job opportunities that align with their strengths
- Develop job search skills like resume writing and interviewing
- Connect with employers and community resources
- Access training or education programs when desired
- Identify career paths that match their interests and abilities

Peer-Led Support Group
Did you know that peer support groups are one of the most effective approaches to rehabilitation?
Together We Thrive is a monthly, peer-led, virtual support group, originally created in British Columbia by the SOAR Project. In these sessions, up to 8 individuals will be able to connect, share their experiences, and learn from one another. This group will be co-facilitated by a peer with lived experience of gender-based violence and brain injury, and a social worker. In addition to fostering peer support, the program will include mindfulness meditation for brain health and may feature presentations from guest speakers who will be able to provide you with additional support and strategies for recovery.
If you have any questions about the program, please contact lifeafterimpact@obia.on.ca or call 855-642-8877. If you would like to register for the next session of Together We Thrive, please apply.
Next Session: Stay tuned for the launch date of our next session. Please note that sessions will occur once a month, for six months.
